Heita,welcome to HHUGE mag.
This is just a welcome page, to officially let yol know that HHUGE is here. We worked hard to make this possible; it wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be when we first started but the challenge was worth it and fun. Initially we had a list of artists we wanted to interview, most of which are based in Durban; we compiled a list and started to contact peeps. We actually got in a couple of interviews, everything was all set! At that point we were based in PMB, a lot of artists (mcs, poets, producers etc.) would come through to the flat, randomly to chill or collect beats and music. And we realized that hip hop is very much alive in PMB; I remember when we first went to U-fm with Antidote, he told us about Guerilla tactics and the history of 033 hip hop. We were like damn for real?! And from that point “the list” took a back seat and we started exploring PMB and found some dope stuff which we will share with you when we launch the magazine.
We’ve been collecting South African underground hip hop since cassettes were in use. We have a long list of artists we wanna meet, and places we wanna visit. So we plan to move around uMzansi , starting with KZN looking for hip hop. We wanna explore hip hop scenes everywhere and collect the music. We wanna chill with street legends and get to know the people we listen to and see what goes on, on and off stage.
With this first issue we were in PMB. We collected the music, interviewed rappers, poets, producers and dancers; surprisingly we couldn’t find any serious graffiti, just wall tagging here and there. For the second issue we will be eSkhawini just to give yol a headz up. Much respect for checking out the page, we will release the launch date soon so please feel free to add us on facebook and follow us twitter and let’s keep SA hip hop alive!
If you want us to review your Mixtape/album please email it to us at word@hhugemag.com with the CD cover and social media details.
